American buyers return to the fine wine auction market in numbers

PetrusIt seems that not all South Americans have been distracted by the World Cup in Brazil. A 12 bottle case of 1990 Petrus was sold recently to a Latin American client of Sotheby’s in New York for $45,938 with over 70% of the lots achieving their high estimate and bidders hailing from 14 countries. 7 of the top 10 lots went to buyers from either North or South America providing further proof that the fine wine market is continuing to expand its horizons beyond its traditional heartlands.
