On 23rdOctober Sotheby’s New Bond Street held a fine wine auction including two collections of fabulous gems such as a range of Petrus, Latour à Pomerol and other assorted Bordeaux & Burgundy. The sale featured a rare library of wines held by Madame Lacoste-Loubat the previous owner of Château Petrus & Château Latour à Pomerol topped off with a collection from a Connoisseur.
Vin-X features of the sale:
- A range of different Petrus vintages from 1945 – 1999 all with pristine provenance assured which commanded high prices.
- One of the top lots was a 12 bottle case of Château Latour à Pomerol with an auction estimate of £40,000-£50,000 which eventually went for £88,000 to a European buyer.
- Most lots started close to their high estimates and bidding was dominated by the presence of online bidders yet again.
- It is clearly evident that vintage and producer are important, but perfect provenance including a trackable history can realise some astounding prices when global buyers get rare wines such as these.
