Earlier this month we commented on the fact that the Fine Wine 100 index had its highest month-on-month move in two years, with the risers being led by First Growth wines where else to start than with the best of the best? Having risen 7.5% in January alone, Lafite 2003 looks like it is finding its feet once again since the dramatic correction over a year long period between 2011 and 2012.
At Vin-X we feel this is the opportune time to own and invest in one of the greatest wines of our time, being one of only four perfectly scored Lafite Rothschild wines EVER.
In an interview with Liv-ex, Robert Parker Jnr was asked to suggest a vintage he felt was particularly under-rated and pointed to potential value, 2003 was one of the three he proposed. While a great vintage for Lafite, not all châteaux had similar success, in fact Parker described 2003 as a 'bizarre year' with some regions having a disastrous crop, producing far below average output. Most importantly the Lafite production levels in 2003 were 'less than half of normal' (The Wine Advocate) meaning obtaining a low-volume, 'perfect' Lafite in a year lacking in great wines a very compelling investment indeed.
