The Bordeaux tastings took Vin-X to First Growth Margaux yesterday morning. Another victim of the disastrous Medoc harvest last year, the wine-makers at this venerable chateau (a favourite of Thomas Jefferson and the home of the first claret to be auctioned at Christies in 1771), have innovated with the 2013 vintage – brave and maybe inspired! With crop production down 50 per cent, Margaux has released a special edition without the Merlot constituent, the wine being composed of 99 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon and 1 per cent Cabernet Franc. Whether this is a rare ‘one-off’ or a ‘first edition’ new formula, without a doubt this has collectable potential. – Again we will keep you posted.
