We are delighted to be partnering with some of the UK’s favourite sports personalities in their quest to enjoy and learn more about fine wine. Ex-England cricketers Matthew Hoggard and Gladstone Small, have worked with our team to create bespoke packages for their club members combining great international sporting events, that they are passionate about, with wine tastings and club dinners co-hosted with Vin-X. Members also enjoy learning about the treatment of fine wine as an investment asset and own an equal share in their club’s wine portfolio.
Matthew Hoggard MBE
Matthew as a former English cricketer was part of the dynamic attack that won the Ashes in 2005. At 6’2″ he was a right arm fast-medium bowler and right-handed batsman and played both Test cricket and One Day Internationals for 9 years between 2000 and 2008. He was the captain of Leicestershire from 2010 until he announced his retirement in 2013 and previous represented Yorkshire for a total of thirteen years.
Matthew joins our team as an Ambassador for his club which offers members the opportunity to join him as he learns more about investing in fine wine whilst enjoying test match tickets at Lords, annual dinners and wine tastings.
Probably Gladstone’s finest performance on the field was to help England retain the Ashes in 1986-87. As a late replacement, he stunned a Boxing Day crowd of 58,000 at the MCG by sharing Australia’s first innings wickets taking 5 for 48 as the hosts were rolled over for 141. When England won, ‘Glad’ was named ‘Man of the Match’. He came to England from Barbados just after his 14th birthday and developed into a fine outswing bowler, hostile enough to worry even the best batsmen. Gladstone played all of his first class cricket for Warwickshire crowning a successful career as a key figure in their all-conquering year of 1994.
As a Vin-X Club Ambassador Gladstone combines his passion for wine with cricket, horse racing and rugby.
