Former British Bobsleigh Chairman and Vin-X Founder, Peter Shakeshaft, revisited his past at the recent launch of Team GB’s bobsleigh for the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Greg Rutherford’s selection for the squad made headlines this week as he pursues his dream of being the first British athlete to achieve both summer and winter Olympic medals.
Peter, Chairman of the British Bobsleigh Association between 2003 – 2008, was delighted to join the current squad at Callum for the exciting sled reveal. Specialist engineering business, Callum has designed the 4-man and 2-man bobsleighs which will first be tested competitively at the BMW IBSF World Cup races in Innsbruck this November.
“I was delighted to be invited by British Bobsleigh to the launch of the Callum sleds. The team are doing an amazing job to prepare and qualify for Beijing given the lack of funding from UK Sport. The ambition and talent is there in spades and Greg Rutherford is a superb addition to an excellent team who have the commitment to go for gold. Funding support is still key and Greg’s profile may help with this. The Discovery Channel are covering Greg’s Bobsleigh story in a documentary this winter and any interested backers could feature. I would encourage anyone interested in supporting to contact the British Bobsleigh team to get involved.” Peter Shakeshaft, Vin-X Chairman and Founder stated.
Peter’s passion for sport began in his youth when he played rugby for the West Midlands Police and Toulouse. A keen sailor and skier, he was able to pursue his own dream of involvement with professional sport at the highest level with the British Bobsleigh Association. This developed to roles with the British Olympic Association and the Professional Cricketers Association.
Vin-X’s sponsorship of The Sporting Club is the latest incarnation of Peter’s sporting passion and one which he can also combine with his great interest in wine. He recently invited double Olympic British Bobsleigh driver, Lamin Deen to speak at a Sporting Club event in London.
